  • Concepts and Words on this Page: What is BUILDING ERP?

    • It would be better to briefly go through what ERP is to understand “Building ERP” better.

    • ‘What is 'ERP’ ?

      • ‘ERP’ stands for Enterprise Resource Planning in English. In Turkish, it means “Kurumsal Kaynak Planlama” and the acronym ‘KKP’ refers to it.

      • ERP (KKP) is the name of the integrated system used for the sake of efficient management of sources such as “Labor”, “Material” and “Machinery” needed by organizations in product and service production, and it is generally implemented by using particular hardware and software.

      • A common database is used to ensure real-time execution of the integrated management. The common database in ERP application allows all organizations units to view the real situation real-time.

    • What is 'Building ERP’?

      • ‘Building EPR’ is the customized form of the ‘ERP’ system in line with the business processes in the Building and Contracting Business sectors.

      • ‘Building ERP’ is the name of the system that manages in integrated form all business processes of Building, Contracting and Engineering companies, and hence secures efficient management of the “Labor”, “Material” and the “Machinery” resources.

      • Customization of the “ERP” system into “Building ERP” for the Building and Contracting Business sectors allow Building, Contracting and Engineering Companies to better manage the business processes specific to the building sector.

      • Business processes of the Building sector not encompassed by the general “ERP” systems are extensively involved under the “Building ERP” system, securing the complete management of business processes of the building sector.
      • 1. Business processes in the Building and Contracting Business sectors can fundamentally be categorized into two headings:

1.1     Business Processes of Project Management

1.2     Business Processes of Corporate Management

1.1. Business Processes of Project Management

The core of the Business Processes of Project Management is to elaborate and manage the work schedule of the project to be implemented.

The Work Schedule is elaborated and managed by the project administrator and team.

Key essential factors in elaborating the work schedule are as follows:

         * identifying the activities to be performed throughout the project and the locations,

         * assigning labor, material and machinery to such activities,

         * scheduling the starting dates and deadlines, and

         * building up “start-end” relations with other activities within the project.

Gantt Diagrams may be used to simplify the process of tracking the work schedule. Gantt Diagrams present the start dates and deadlines, and the cross “start-end” relations of activities on a time graph much more visually and clearly.

Work schedule is of great essence for the management of the project, because all activities under the project are implemented in line with the work schedule. This way, labor, material and machinery are utilized in conformance to the activities defined in the work schedule.

1.2 Business Processes of Corporate Management

The Business Processes of Corporate Management are made up of key functions including but not limited to the following:

                         Tender tracking,

                       Bid Preparation,

                       CRM,

                       Delivery,

                       Planning,

                       Purchasing,

                       Logistics and Warehouse Management,

                       Fixture Management,

                       Progress Payment Tracking,

                       Subcontractor Tracking,

                       Budget,

                       Accounting,

                       Finance,

                       Human Resources,

          Payrolls and Personal Rights of Employees,

                       Document Management

These business processes are administreted by the supervisors of various departments within the organization.

        2. Relationships between the Business Processes of the Project Management and Business Processes of Corporate Management:

The work schedule that incorporates the business processes of project management are always in contact with the business processes of corporate management. Likewise, business processes of corporate management are also cross-related with each other.

Based upon the work schedule, the logistics, purchasing, finance and human resources departments of the organization identify when and where to use what resource and take the necessary measures accordingly. In other words, the purchasing department takes the purchasing or leasing action to make available the needed materials and machineries for the demanding unit. The finance department takes measures for necessary payments. The logistics department undertakes the allocation of materials and machines according to the timing requirements and the demanding unit. Likewise, the Human Resources Department elaborates the necessary labour plan, hires new taskforce if necessary to acquire the availability of the needed taskforce at the demanding organizational unit.

Work schedules may be revised for many times due to particular internal and external factors after the project is started, and with such revisions, starting dates and deadlines of many of the activities within the work schedule and resource requirements may change. In this case, the resource-providing departments should immediately be advised to avoid the allocation of wrong volume of resources to the wrong destination at the wrong timing.

THE “BUILDING ERP” SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE:

The application of the “Building ERP” system is realized efficiently with the use of the appropriate software and hardware.

The appropriate hardware complete with the software developed specifically for the business processes of the building and the contracting business sector ensures data flow between the headquarters and construction sites of building and contracting companies, and ensures integrated management of the business processes of project management and corporate management.
